Walk along the Boyne river in Slane The Ramparts walk is a fantastic choice if you want to be out in the middle of nature. It became widely known around the county after being featured in an advertisement for the iconic stout, Guinness. If it even made it into a Guinness ad then you can be certain that it is one of the most unique things to do in Meath!
With a fire lit and a pint of Guinness in your hand, it is the perfect thing to do in Meath on a rainy day! Trim Castle is one of the most impressive castles in Ireland. It is the largest Cambro-Norman castle in Ireland and was built in the 12th century. The castle also played a part in the movie, Braveheart.
The castle is remarkably well preserved and you can take a minute long guided tour around the grounds which will give you the chance to appreciate just how impressive the castle is. If you want to educate yourself about the history of Ireland then you should absolutely stop by this castle!

Bective Abbey is one of my favourite places to go in Meath. If you want to get away from long queues and tour buses then this is the perfect site to visit. Great atmosphere and always brilliant bands and music playing. Owner so friendly and welcoming. No such thing as ordering a taxi- bar staff will make sure u get home save. One of a kind pub- every success deserved.

We had also heard about some other restaurants in Ashbourne and evidently they were so new and so wildly popular that we could not get reservations at a reasonable time.
No worries - we just punted up north and landed at The Snailbox, after examining reviews from various websites, including this one. Despite a few disgruntled opinions, we found on the whole that our experience was as good as the more positive reviews we had read. The ceiling is covered with caps of all colors and companies and universities and teams and countries, it's just amazing. They are hoping to make it into the Guinness' Book of World Records.
If you are preparing a trip, bring your favorite cap or one you don't mind donating to them, and they will exchange it for an official The Snailbox ball cap. Very nice. We did not know about the owners of the restaurant until we got there and read the menus, but realized then that we had a family connection. So my Mom got to chat with the owner about their mutual family name, and both seemed quite pleased to discuss the family name. It was my mom's first trip to Ireland so she now has treasured memories of The Snailbox.
